A Storied History
The DSO traces its origins to a concert given by a group of 40 musicians conducted by Hans Kreissig in 1900. From these humble beginnings, the orchestra evolved under a series of legendary music directors, including Antal Doráti (1945-48), who transformed the ensemble into a fully professional orchestra, and Eduardo Mata (1977-93), under whose leadership the DSO opened its permanent home at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in 1989. More recently, the orchestra has flourished under the leadership of Fabio Luisi, who inaugurated his tenure as Music Director in September 2020 . The DSO is celebrating its 125th anniversary season in 2025/26.
